Rose Bay House is a substantial renovation of a much-loved freestanding family home, designed for a family of five wanting to carry their period features into the next chapter of life. Rather than starting again, the project carefully restores the character of the original house while expanding and reworking it to better suit contemporary family living.
A new ground and first floor addition allowed us to completely reorient the layout so that the primary living spaces now face north, drawing in light and connecting directly to the garden. By subtly raising the internal floor level, the new living areas are brought into alignment with the higher rear yard, transforming a previously awkward disconnect into a seamless indoor–outdoor connection.
Throughout, materials have been selected for their sophistication, durability and timeless appeal. The result is a Rose Bay house renovation that respects its heritage, supports busy family life and feels effortlessly connected to its surroundings.
