Set on a compact block not far from Rushcutters Bay, Jacaranda House looked at how a modest weatherboard cottage could be opened up and expanded without losing its quiet street presence.
The design introduced a new first floor addition that remained largely hidden from the street, allowing the original cottage to keep its familiar scale and character. At the rear, the home became much more generous, with new living areas opening out to the garden, local jacarandas and district views beyond.

The aim was to make the home feel lighter, more spacious and more connected to its setting. Large areas of glass bring in natural light and create an easy flow between the kitchen, living areas and outdoor spaces.
Rather than simply adding more floor area, the project focused on making better use of a tight site. Privacy, outlook, sunlight and a sense of openness were all carefully balanced to create a calm, practical and uplifting home.
