At this family home in Sydney’s eastern suburbs the brief required that in addition to housing a large family it could accommodate places of refuge and privacy. This formed the design driver for the external character of the house. Two stacked volumes articulated with two contrasting material choices highlighting the difference in the internal program of the house. A refined and subtle play of volumes continues internally with the main living areas located at the middle floor where an existing raised garden provides for an extended outdoor living area. The bedrooms, study and gym are provided for on the level below and above. With neighbours on each side a connection with the outside has been catered for with dual aspects to the street and west to the City.
