This modest first-floor addition to a semi-detached home in Bondi suffered like many semis in the area with a familiar set of challenges: a tight footprint, limited natural light, and a layout that no longer worked as well as it could for modern family life. These homes often have good bones, but they need careful planning to unlock their potential.
The aim was not simply to add more space, but to make the whole home work better. With a considered first-floor addition, the design creates the opportunity for improved separation between living and sleeping areas, better use of the existing ground floor, and a home that feels more generous without becoming overbuilt.
